I used this driver (registration required - you can find it elsewhere if you look)
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/
I used version 4.9.C of p2kcommander
http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/commander/
Once the drivers are installed - the handset was recognized for me as a modem.
I went to the modem properties and noted its com port.
To get p2kcommander to detect the phone i went to options -
Check use this com port - and set the box to comX - where X is the com port number of the motorola usb modem
I also used new(fast) 3G-P2K commands.
- you are looking for the Uusb p2k device found or P2K Tci IF up messages; Volume name fail! & GENERIC FAILURE. are normal-
Once you have p2kcommander connected - you can drop your ringtones (mp3 files) in the following folder:
a/brew/mod/my_ringers/
Then brows to a/ and delete MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db
Restart the phone and you should be able to use the new mp3 files as ringtones.
PM me if you are having problems at any stage - Getting p2kcommander to detect the phone proved to be the tricky part.

i have bought this phone and have made a personalized ringtone, and for some reason on all my other friends phones they are 'apply'able after being tranferred to the phone via bluetooth, and put into the ringtone folder just as an MP3 format file. but for some reason this method does not work with ym new motorola W385, can anyoen tell me why?
