Introducing the new Maps 3.0Beta, with better maps than ever before, enhanced Drive and Walk navigation and synchronisation with Ovi MapsBeta for Web.
What's new from the previous release?
* Now supports "Touch devices" S60 5th Edition (5800 Xpress Music & N97)
* New additional features such as weather information, safety spot warners in selected countries, extended country coverage for traffic info service and premium POI (Point of Interest) content for travel, selected events and cinema

What’s new in Maps 3.0Beta compared with Maps 2.0
Maps 3.0Beta is a sneak preview of the forthcoming version of Ovi Maps for mobile.
- Enhanced car navigation, Drive*, through lane assistance, speed limit warners, improved sign post design and new ‘Route overview’ mode during navigation,
- Enhanced pedestrian navigation, Walk**, through shortcuts (virtual connections) in urban areas, straight line guidance for off-road terrain and beeps and vibrations before next turn,
- Significantly improved map data quality and content,
- 3D landmarks for over 200 cities – can be displayed in 3D and 2D map modes,
- New Terrain*** map mode,
- Hi-res aerial images for Satellite*** and Hybrid*** map modes,
- Nokia Maps Updater for PC, to update your Maps application and existing map data,
- Synchronisation of Favourites and Collections with Ovi MapsBeta for web and vice versa (use in online mode, enable Internet connection).

maps.ovi.com extends the Maps experience from mobile device to the web. You can explore maps in 2D, 3D, satellite and hybrid views, save places relevant to you, create your Favourites and Collections, and then synchronise them over-the-air with Maps 3.0Beta on your mobile and vice versa.

Download and installation
Maps Updater is a PC application with which you can install the latest Maps 3.0Beta client to your device, and update the maps and voice guidance files. There is no sis file available, because the Maps 3.0Beta client requires the installation of new, compatible maps and voice guidance files.
Even if you have previously installed Maps 3.0Beta, please re-install the newest version of Maps Updater and Map Loader from the download section as many bugs have now been fixed.
Instructions:
1. Ensure that you have the latest PC Suite installed on your computer
2. Download and install Maps Updater to your computer.
3. Connect your device to the computer (PC Suite Mode) and open Maps Updater.
4. If more than one device is connected to the computer, select your device from the list.
5. When Maps Updater has found updates, download them to your device.
6. Accept the installation in your device when prompted on the device display.
7. Please monitor the download to your device as it is likely that it will ask you to click “ok” a few times in order to close applications and continue. Failure to do this will result in a “time out” and incorrect installation to your device.
8. Ensure that installation is fully complete (notification on computer & phone) before opening Maps 3.0 - this can sometimes take a while, but please be patient as the Maps Updater needs to delete the old maps data first.
9. Once complete, open Maps 3.0
Note that earlier versions of Map Loader do not work with Maps 3.0Beta so please install Map Loader 3.0 to add the necessary map(s) to your device.
If your phone is not detected when running Maps Updater, please ensure you run Maps 2.0 once before trying again.

Downgrading:
If you downgrade the Maps application - e.g. when installing new firmware or resetting the device, update the application again with Nokia Maps Updater.
To remove Maps 3.0beta from your phone and install Maps 2.0:
1. Delete the ‘cities’ folder and the ‘qf’ file on the memory card with File Manager
2. Reinstall Maps 2.0 from www.nokia.com/maps
3. Start Maps 2.0 once
4. Use Map Loader 2.0 from www.nokia.com/maps to download the map data you need
Compatibility and system requirements
Maps Updater and Map Loader 3.0 require Microsoft Windows XP or Vista.
Maps Updater requires Nokia PC Suite to be installed on your computer.
Maps 3.0Beta works with Nokia devices based on:
